Quality & Testing Schedule
Steve Morse (Click
Here) is our current coordinator for water sampling and testing.
Five water tests were performed in 2008. Samples were drawn and tested
for each of the four lakes. All results came back well under acceptable
limits.
Current plan is to do water testing Apr, Jun, Jul, Aug each year. (Note:
Skip Apr 2009 because of recent filling with fresh well water.)
Typical water quality tests include:
- Heterotrophic Plate Count
- E coli
- PH
- Phosphorous
We have been using ELi Envirodyne Laboratories, Inc. in Katy, TX.
Everyone is expected to do the
following in order to assist with maintaining good lake water quality:
* Maintain your septic systems
in good working order (including mandatory maintenance contract and
addition of chlorine)
* Use low phosphorous fertilizers (low middle number) (See link to
additional fertilizer info on our website)
* Avoid excessive use of detergents and detergent runoff into lake.
(source of phosphorous)
*
Ensure that animal manure does not enter lakes [From the Deed
Restrictions ==> Horses must be kept and stabled in areas in which
storm-water run-off drains away from the central lake system. Horses
shall be kept in such a manner so as to not cause any unsanitary
condition to exist in the central lakes system of Lakes of Katy. Owners
of horses are responsible for ensuring that no manure enters the lake
system, or is left upslope of the lake.]
* Avoid spilling oil, fuel and other chemicals into the lake or in areas
that could result in runoff into the lake.
