Lake Closures

Why do we need close the lakes periodically?

The lakes are typically only restricted to No-Wake when required for:

A) Maintenance purposes (e.g. South Lake in 2008, and mid lakes in winter of 2008-2009). This will either be for very low water levels or when shoreline stabilization (compaction and/or vegetation growth) is required.

B) High lake level after a period of extremely heavy rain (notionally >6 inches over spillway)

Maintain your boat at no-wake speed if you are instructed to do so by a LOK Communication Broadcast or if there is a NO-WAKE buoy floating at the west end of the lakes. This is to avoid property damage, either in shoreline maintenance zones or under/around docks (as was experienced in 2007). With the spillway modifications made in the spring of 2008, the duration of a damaging high water level (notionally >6 inches over spillway) is not expected to last more than 1-3 days. This is a rare event.
