Lake Committee Minutes
LAKE COMMITTEE MEETING:
Lake Committee meeting was held Nov 21, 2009.
Joe Shea, Chuck Gleason, Mark Petrie, David Welch, Mike Elam attended.
1) Lake level during off season ---- Decided not to lower lake level
this winter for shoreline repairs (shoreline repairs can be done without
significantly lowering lake level, which incurs a risk of refilling
cost). See discussion for item #2 below. Post meeting: Winter lake level
Nov through Jan has varied from 5 inches below spillway to 1-1/2 inches
over spillway. Bypass valve was utilized at least twice to quickly
minimize time over spillway.
2) Lake shoreline maintenance ---- Chuck did a shoreline
survey prior to meeting so we would have details to discuss. There are
eight areas that have shorelines that have moderate to significant
erosion. However, these areas do not pose a significant problem to
skiing conditions that would warrant drawing down lake level. Chuck is
going to send his survey map to the MMC so that a letter can be issued
to point out areas for shoreline improvement consideration. Preventive
repairs helps avoid more significant repairs later.
3) Plans for off-season lake maintenance ---- No
immediate plans. Chuck has worked on the area west of the spillway on
the South Lake. Joe & Chuck will walk the island and common areas to see
if we need to organize a work day.
4) Water quality report ---- No report data provided at
the meeting, but all samples taken in 2009 were in very good condition.
(i.e. significantly withing guidelines)
5) Water use rules. --- We’ve had a few instances with
swimmers in the lake without safety boats or notice to the neighborhood.
We discussed establishing guidelines that would be submitted for Board
review. Considerations are safety of swimmers, liability for property
owners and LOK, and considerations relative to Lake Use Rules.
Notionally will include:
* Something about scheduling with the ski club calendar folks
* Something about notifying the community
* Something about what days of the week
* Something about liability waivers?
* Something about the type of protection (warning bouys, safety boat,
etc.)
6) Grass on shorelines and island. Do we need more seed,
fertilizer, more sprinklers, etc? ---- We want to avoid repairs on the
island that would destroy established vegitation (i.e. not planning to
use box blade). We will distribute some additional bermuda seed in the
spring when the temperatures get warm enough. A box blade (or
equivalent) would be required for about four personal property
shorelines that were not repaired in 1Q2009.
7) Lake Dye --- We are out of lake dye and will need to
order some in the spring.
8) Landscape plans around lakes – What’s the Capital
Committee planning if anything? We are not aware of the plan. The trees
along Morton Road have done very well. Chuck planted additional Pompas
Grass west of the Japanese Blueberry trees toward the irrigation pump.
9) Report on Ski Club plans for 2010 ---- Discussed plans
for 2010 tournaments, including June Big Dog. (Details are noted in Ski
Club meeting notes. Sounds like there will be 2 slalom tournaments, 1 Jr
Development, 1 Big Dog , and maybe one barefoot tournament so far.) The
shorelines are in good condition for summer tournaments and seem to be
holding up well. Some minor touch up may be required, but we are not
currently inclined to do anything major that would remove established
vegetation.
We'll have another meeting in February and make final plans for spring
details.
